Spinal Fusion Except Cervical Cohort

The Spinal Fusion Except Cervical cohort includes all encounters grouped into MS-DRGs 459 and 460, excluding encounters with diagnosis codes for fracture, infection, scoliosis or cancer.

To leverage this cohort:

  • Profile filters: In the Profile Editor, add the cohort as a profile filter. With this option, you can further customize the profile with additional filters.
  • Statistical Process Control: Add a Statistical Process Control section to a scorecard and select the cohort from the dropdown. Within this section, the cohort is not customizable and must be used as-is. When drilling into a chart in the SPC section, you can select to create a profile of the encounters you're drilling into so you can analyze and customize further.

Cohort inclusions

To be eligible for this cohort, the encounter must have an MS-DRG for Spinal Fusion Except Cervical (one of: 459 or 460).

Cohort exclusions

Encounters with any of the following ICD-10 Diagnosis Codes are excluded from the cohort:

  • Any diagnosis code for a spinal fracture
  • Any diagnosis code for infection
  • Any diagnosis code for scoliosis
  • Any diagnosis code for cancer

Statistical Process Control (SPC) measures

  • Charges - Principal Procedure (sum of OR Charges on the day of the Principal Procedure)
  • Mortality Rate

These measures flag the encounter if the condition is present. The adverse events are aggregated in the Adverse Event bar chart.

  • Any PSI
  • Any HAC
  • Usage - ICU
  • Usage - Blood Use
  • AMI within 7 days of index admission
  • Pneumonia within 7 days of index admission
  • Sepsis within 7 days of index admission
  • Surgical site bleed within 30 days of index admission
  • Pulmonary embolism within 30 days of index admission
  • Mortality within 30 days of admission
  • Mechanical complications within 90 days of index admission
  • Perprosthetic joint/wound infection with 90 days of index admission
  • Unexplained Cardiac Arrest
  • Reaction to Anesthesia
